On 3 November 2023, western Nepal was struck by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake, resulting in death, displacement and injury of hundreds of people in an area of Nepal that already suffers with higher levels of poverty. Aftershocks continue and stability of homes and public buildings is precarious.
It is estimated that thousands of school-age children will be impacted by this earthquake. UNICEF reports that in the aftermath, children and their families are most at risk, having lost their homes, schools and health facilities.
Our partner program, RHERI, is in the region of the earthquake and whilst everyone is safe, there has been significant damage to some of the children’s family homes.
BTO is launching an emergency appeal to raise US$10,000 to support the affected community with fresh water, food, rebuilding efforts, health care to manage disease outbreaks and support for remote education.
