Gifts that Give More – Safety

Beyond the Orphanage

In our previous blog, we said we would tell you of 5 feelings you can gift, when you choose to donate to Beyond the Orphanage. This Christmas, we need your generosity more than ever as we work to empower our new partner program in Kenya.

So here is our number 2.

2. SAFETY

Give the gift of safety this end of year, so vulnerable kids as young as 8, can access not only food, a shower, clean water to drink but also be safe, without the fear of being beaten to death on the streets, even poisoned, as they are seen as the “chokora” – Swahili for Rubbish.

These kids are living alone or in groups with other children near rubbish dumps, under bridges and on the streets where they beg or steal to survive. Broken homes, as a result of death of a parent, alcoholism or poverty are often the reasons they are forced to a life on the streets. All the children on the street suffer from drug addictions to glue or jet fuel which damage their young minds and bodies, sometimes irreparably. This is a mark of all street kids – a way for them to cope with the terrors, deprivations and despair of street life.

There’s no better time than the holidays, a season all about giving, to truly take a step back and think about what you have the power of giving when you give.

This year, give so much more than a gift. Give happiness. Give safety.
