What would it mean to be sustainable?

Hannah Smith

As the global pandemic challenged the resilience of Beyond the Orphanage (BTO) and its partners were inspired to embark on a journey towards long-term sustainability, recognising the importance of resilience and transformative change.

Through a comprehensive skills audit, we engaged our partners in a dialogue about their vision for self-sufficiency and independence. We asked them, ‘what would it mean to be sustainable?’

Our partners identified growth opportunities, focusing on life skills, emotional resilience, and strategic financial thinking.

With the unwavering support of the BTO community, we have already taken significant steps towards addressing these needs.

BTO has implemented child protection training, alcohol and drug awareness training and digital literacy programs. Individual scholarships have provided opportunities for children to pursue education and Wellness Committees have been established to prioritise the emotional well-being of those under our care.

BTO remains deeply committed to supporting children. Fortunately, our program partners share this sentiment and have continuously asked for the support of various income-generating ventures. We will continue to innovate and adapt, leveraging our resources and expertise to empower our partners and foster lasting change.

We stand firm in our belief that sustainable solutions are not only possible but essential. With determination and collaboration, we will create a brighter tomorrow for the communities we serve.

Thank you for your support.
