The power of picture books

Hannah Smith

Imagine for one moment you couldn’t hear your world. Learning about it from what you see becomes even more important.

Books provide an opportunity for all our senses to be ignited as we delve into vivid worlds crafted by the imagination of their authors.

Picture books especially, serve as a powerful medium, their significance going beyond the realm of storytelling, particularly for deaf children.

By engaging with images that depict objects, actions, and emotions, and reading descriptions in Nepali, deaf children can build vocabulary, expand their understanding of concepts, and strengthen their grasp of language.

With your help, Beyond the Orphanage is aiming to raise enough money to provide picture books in Nepali for the children at RHERI (amongst other things – please click here for the full list we are raising funds for).

There’s still time to make a difference.
